The Marion boys' basketball team started off the season on a bit of a roller coaster, edging Maquoketa by a 59-55 tally before falling to Solon by a 55-54 final on the road last Friday night.

Trailing by 12 points, entering the final quarter of play against Maquoketa, the Indians rallied by outscoring the Cardinals 24-8 in the fourth quarter to get the hard-fought victory. Trevor Paulsen led the charge with a double-double, scoring 18 points while snagging 10 rebounds in the process. Chase Zielke also scored 18 points and led the team with four assists.

The roles were reversed against the Spartans as Marion held a seven-point lead entering the fourth quarter of play, but a strong Solon push and a three-point buzzer-beater gave them the win. Zielke had 18 points to lead the Indians in scoring, Alex Whalen had 11 points and four steals while Jevin Manderscheid also finished in double-digit scoring with 10 points.

The Indians will be back in action this week with a home contest against Independence and a road game against Williamsburg.
