Last week, the Marion High School wrestling team started off the season with a dual at Cedar Rapids Washington and competed at the Guilford Invitational at Monticello High School. While at Washington High School, the Indians competed against Mount Vernon first, losing by a score of 28-35.

Afterwards, Marion competed against the Warriors, winning with a score of 42-27 as Washington had four forfeits.

At the end of the week, Monticello High School held the annual Guilford Invitational wrestling meet Saturday, December 2, that featured seven teams, including the Marion Indians. Despite some solid performances, the Indians fell just short of winning the team title, finishing seven-and-a-half points behind meet champion Vinton-Shellsburg.

106-pounder Niyo Gady and 220-pounder Logan Hangartner were winners in their respective weight classes. Gady earned a 6-1 decision over Vinton-Shellsburg's Mike Betterton to win the championship match while Hangartner pinned Monticello's Mason Reuter to get the victory at 5:31 into the match.

113-pounder Gavin Hiler, 182-pounder Brady Bartz and 285-pounder Carson Webster each placed second in their weight brackets.
