Indians improve to 4-0
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · December 7th, 2017

The top-ranked team in Class 4A girls' basketball has shown why they're holding the number one spot last week in a couple of different situations. After destroying both Maquoketa and Solon to start off the week, the Marion Indians trailed heading into the fourth quarter against Cedar Rapids, Prairie. Facing a seven-point deficit entering the final stanza, coach Corby Laube's team remained calm but turned up the heat on the Hawks in the fourth quarter to earn a 58-53 victory.

In the win over Prairie, sophomore Kayba Laube led the team in scoring with 15 points while Chloe Rice's versatility was on display. The senior commit to St. Louis University scored 14 points while recording five steals, five assists and four rebounds.

In the 83-32 win over Maquoketa, the Indians outscored the Cardinals 54-16 after one half of play to put the game on ice. Freshman Riley Wright came off the bench and led Marion in scoring with 16 points while both Laube girls, Kayba and Mia, scored 15 apiece in the winning effort.

Marion's 64-18 win over Solon featured just one double-digit scorer but 11 Indians scored buckets in the winning effort. Kayba Laube had 13 points and four steals while Sophie Willette tallied nine points off the bench.

The Indians currently hold a 4-0 record on the season and will look to make it 5-0 against Williamsburg at home this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
