Coates second in opening tourney
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · December 7th, 2017

The Marion archery teams kicked off their respective seasons last Saturday at South Tama County High School in Tama. Several teams from across the state of Iowa made the trip down Highway 30 to do battle. When the dust settled, Marion's Reid Coates had a phenomenal day.

Coates, a sophomore, notched a score of 287 to go along with 20-tens to place second in the 86-man high school field. Carter Lantermans, a junior, placed 21st overall while Nathan Jones brought home 30th place honors.

For the Marion girls, it was Mariyah Zachman who led the charge, placing 25th out of 79 high school competitors. Rebecca Haugen was scored in 55th place.

The next tournament for the Marion archery squad will be held this Saturday, the Shoot Out at the Complex, located at the Cedar Valley Sportsplex in Waterloo.
