Indians struggle at Mount Vernon Invite
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · December 14th, 2017

The Marion wrestling team left the Mount Vernon Invitational Wrestling Tournament last Saturday with room for improvement and a new, clean slate on the horizon. The Indians, who did not have Niyo Gady and Brady Bartz in the lineup, had a rough go over the weekend with just a handful of victories from their depleted lineup.

Braden Garringer, 138 pounds, won four of his match-ups to place fifth in his weight classes. All four of his wins came via pinfall. Zach Cochrane was the only other Marion wrestler to place, finishing sixth at 145 pounds after going 3-2 on the day.

Marion scored 31 points to place 14th in the team standings. Lisbon and West Liberty tied for the team title with 222 points apiece.

The wrestlers will be back in action this Saturday at Cedar Rapids Xavier's Doug Philipp Duals at 9 a.m.
