Swimmers win Grinnell Invite
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · December 14th, 2017

The Linn-Mar boys' swimming team brought home gold medals in three events silver medals in five events in addition to the championship at the annual Grinnell Invitational held on the campus of Grinnell College in east-central Iowa over the weekend. Coach Tom Belin's teams set quite a few best times for both the season and personal bests for a lot of swimmers who competed on Saturday.

The 200-yard Medley Relay foursome of Grant Bartleson, Brycen Snell, Alex Cochrane and Nick Cavanah edged Ottumwa with a winning time of 1:47.78 to claim gold. Cavanah was victorious in the 100-yard Fly with a winning time of 56.73 seconds and Snell just barely edged Indianola's Jaxson Mahlstadt in the 500-yard Freestyle, winning with a time of 5:14.31 compared to Mahlstadt's second place time of 5:14.48.

The Lions scored 463 points to win the team race, 20 better than runner-up Indianola.

The boys will look to compete this Saturday at Clinton High School beginning at 7 a.m., and they will then take a competition break over the holiday season.
