Lions earn first win, lose to Xavier
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · December 14th, 2017

Their record might not be indicating it, but the Linn-Mar girls' basketball team is making strides and getting closer to breaking through. After beating down Waterloo East and falling to Class 4A's 13th-ranked team Cedar Rapids Xavier by just eight points on the road, things are definitely looking up for the Lions after a sluggish start.

In the 73-47 win over East, Linn-Mar jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Macey Miller had 18 points, six assists and three steals to lead the way for the Lions, while Ally Johnson netted 16 points of her own. Megan Murphy joined her teammates in double-figures with 12 points, while freshman Keegan Krejca had five points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals in a well-rounded effort.

Miller filled it up in the 62-54 loss to the Saints, scoring 24 points and finishing with a team-best four assists. Johnson joined her in double-digit scoring with 15, while Murphy scored nine points and grabbed six boards.

The Lions' record now sits at 1-6 overall for the season. The girls played Dubuque Wahlert on Tuesday (results unknown at press time) and will defend at home against Cedar Rapids Prairie on Friday, December 15, with tip-off at 6 p.m.
