Christmas with Mrs. Claus for a cause
by DJ Kauffman Correspondent · December 14th, 2017

The Victorian-style Granger House was filled to the brim with boys and girls ages four to 10 on the morning of Saturday, December 9. The children seemed delighted to meet Mrs. Claus and receive a gift bag from her, just for stopping by.

During the event, the kids listened to Mrs. Claus as she read to them. They decorated cookies, made holiday crafts, and toured the home, which is more than 150 years old. After looking about the historical landmark and learning about late-19th century Christmas customs, curator Barb Trujillo, said someone asked her where they kept the televisions.

Two Christmas with Mrs.Claus sessions were held that morning from 8:30 to noon, and the price for the event was a new Keep Your Neighbors Warm winter clothing item, such as gloves or a hat, one per every child attending. The annual Marion Holiday Giving Project's focus is to help community families in need.

According to a media release, "Each year, the Marion Independent School District organizes a giving project for families in need within the school district." And, "through the joint efforts of school groups, community organizations and local businesses, each family is provided with non-perishable food items, clothing, and gifts. In 2016 the project assisted 142 families. A special thank you to the Granger House & Museum and Hills Bank & Trust for sponsoring this event," they wrote.
