Western Dubuque wins Linn-Mar Duals
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · January 11th, 2018

Ten teams from across central and eastern Iowa met up for the annual Linn-Mar Duals over the weekend in Marion. Both schools, Linn-Mar and Marion, were in attendance and actually wrestled each other at one point in a match. Despite solid showings from both squads, neither team claimed the tournament championship as Western Dubuque went unbeaten and claimed victory over the nine other foes.

Both Linn-Mar and Marion ended up in Pool A, which meant they would have to do battle with each other. In a hotly contested dual, it was the Lions that picked up the victory over their cross-town foe. In arguably the biggest match of the dual, seventh-ranked Bryce Parke from Linn-Mar toppled previously unbeaten Niyo Gady from Marion to give the Lions the advantage and help lift them to a 36-31 victory. Linn-Mar would also defeat Mount Pleasant and Clear Creek-Amana but would fall to eventual champion Western Dubuque. The Indians were also defeated by the Bobcats but took care of things against Mount Pleasant and CC-A to advance to the fifth/sixth place dual while Linn-Mar would fight for third and fourth.

In the third place dual, the Lions were edged by a stout Clinton team 38-31, placing Linn-Mar in fourth for the day. As for the Indians, they would fall to rival Mount Vernon 48-21 to place sixth.

Western Dubuque topped Ankeny Centennial 48-25 to win the tournament title.
