L-M Lion Swimmers Get Good Tests
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · January 11th, 2018

The Linn-Mar boys' swimming team has achieved a good amount of success this season between personal bests and meet titles. But as the season winds down, Coach Tom Belin is looking forward to facing off with the best of the best to prepare the Lions for their race towards success at the State Meet. Stiff competition was in town last Saturday as the Lions hosted its annual meet.

"We continued our quest to swim good teams at our Invite. The boys didn't disappoint. They swam well and worked the little things that will help them at their target meets. We finished fifth, but the competition was what we needed," Belin noted after the Lions squared off with tough teams from Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

Despite not winning any events, the Lions had a second place finish from sophomore Nick Cavanah in the 200-yard Free. Cavanah finished with a time of 1:47.62, chasing one of Wisconsin's best prep swimmers, Monona Grove's Ben McDade. Cavanah also swam on Linn-Mar's third-place 200-yard Free Relay foursome with Matt Peng, Alex Cochrane, and Brycen Snell. The Lions missed silver by .01 seconds, getting edged by Dowling Catholic.

Iowa City West edged Monona Grove for the meet championship with 416, nine points better than the Wisconsin school. Linn-Mar scored 351 points in their fifth-place finish.
