Innovative Protein & Coffee Bar offers a healthy brew to the area
by DJ Kauffman Correspondent · January 11th, 2018

Innovative Protein & Coffee Bar, located at 901 Tower Terrace Road, Suite 100 in Marion is a new standard coffee shop open to all who would like to drink a cup of coffee or smoothie in a relaxed environment. "We try to maintain a positive atmosphere that makes people feel welcome and comfortable," they said.

The new coffee bar also offers a convenient drive-thru, where patrons can pull up, order and pay for coffee without ever having to leave their vehicle. "It's perfect for the cold weather we're currently experiencing," they said.

The Innovative Protein staff said they "genuinely care about every person who walks in the door. We want to educate people on the health benefits we offer and other healthy options they can make in everyday life. You can't go to another coffee shop and get a latte that has 20g of protein. If you can have a great tasting coffee that's healthy."

According to management, Innovative Protein & Coffee Bar offers a large variety of coffee and smoothie options, including protein in any drink. "We also have a reach-in cooler with salads, sandwiches, baked goods, parfaits, protein balls, veggies, house-made hummus...and Ideal Protein food as a snack option."

"The food is a great tool for getting in key nutrients, especially in this day and age when many of us are on the run. We are looking at increasing these options in the future," they said.

Currently, between 60 and 70 patrons frequent the new Marion establishment each business day, with a majority of their customer base being on their FDA-approved and medically supervised Ideal Protein program. According to management, "Because of this, our most popular drink is an Ideal Protein (Phase 1 Approved) Pumpkin Spice Latte. It has 20g of protein, roughly 100 calories, and two carbs."

Also, "Innovative Aesthetics hosts the Ideal Protein program. Our newest location here in Marion has both a weight loss center and a coffee shop that can supplement the program," they said.

There is a one-time fee for a lifetime membership to the program with Innovative Aesthetics. With this, members will get to meet with a coach once a week for support, guidance, and accountability. "This membership also gives you access to many different resources to help you reach your goals," they said.

The company's overall goal is to "help each person be the best version of themselves that they can be. Whether that manifests through weight loss to become healthier, a massage to reduce some stress, or meeting with friends over coffee, we want to help improve everyone's quality of life."

Besides Marion's weight loss center and coffee shop, Innovative Aesthetics currently has a medical and laser spa and a small weight loss center in downtown Cedar Rapids, and a weight loss center and workout room on Blairs Ferry Road.

Innovative Aesthetics is owned by Dr. Jason and Terri Rexroth. Personnel said Doctor Rexroth had noticed many of his OBGYN clients needed help in taking better care in all aspect of their lives, not just in their health.

Because of this, Dr. Rexroth did extensive research for weight loss programs...and loved the concept of having coaches work with clients and guide them, not just on healthier eating options, but healthier living options - thinking positive, having a social life, learning to love yourself. Those are all key components to living a healthy lifestyle," they said. "Hence, he opened up the medical spa, and later added the diet and expanded the downtown location."

As demand for the diet grew, so did their need for a separate location. This is when they opened a weight loss center on Blairs Ferry Road. "With this new location, they created a workout space for clients to exercise without feeling self-conscious.

"Additionally, one of our coaches teaches yoga on Saturdays.

"The vision for the Marion coffee shop and weight loss center came about a few years ago. The team wanted a place that diet clients could meet with friends to eat, drink, and have options that were kosher for them. Additionally, the team wanted another avenue to promote living a healthy lifestyle."

Furthermore, they explained how "the body has three sources of energy from which it draws to meet its metabolic needs: carbohydrates, muscle, and fat. Chronologically, the body will first draw on its carbohydrate reserve before turning to muscle and fat."

With this in mind, they said, "The Ideal Protein Protocol is done in four phases. During the weight loss phases of the weight loss method, we limit carbohydrate intake to encourage the body to transform its fat and muscle components into energy. By eating high biological protein foods, the protocol helps to support muscle mass and teaches you how to develop smarter eating habits and lifestyle choices, to help maintain your weight after weight loss is achieved."
