Help Marion take the next step
by Nancy Grindle Correspondent · January 11th, 2018

The Chamber of Commerce and City of Marion began a process in 2009 to envision what might be possible for the community over the next years. It was called Imagine8 and many wonderful projects came to fruition as a result.

Now it's time to look ahead at a new set of terrific ideas to fulfill the next common goal, called ImagiNext. The mission of ImagiNEXT is "to engage the greater Marion area in an open, all-inclusive discussion to develop great ideas that reinforce the fact that Marion, Iowa is the best place to raise a family and grow a business."

The Chamber of Commerce created a "toolkit" and a timeline for people to come together, brainstorm and discuss various great ideas. From those ideas, a list will be generated for the future.

The deadline is Monday, January 15, but you still have a little time. Sit down, close your eyes, and think about the following questions and how you would answer them for yourself and for others, if you had unlimited resources.

What is the best place you have ever visited? What did you like about it?

What did this best place look like and feel like?

If you could do anything you wanted, what would you do to make Marion an ideal place - to live, to work, and to stay forever?

Now write your ideas down. Never mind that maybe you couldn't do them by yourself or even that they look impossible even with lots of help and funds. Just write down what you'd like to see and your ideas or visions.

Send these ideas no later than Monday, January 15, one of these ways:

Maybe you'd like to talk with others now. Friday night, January 12, is scheduled as a Night of Ideas all over the city. Check the City of Marion website or the Marion Chamber of Commerce website to see where you could visit with other people and share your great ideas.

The selection committee, which was chosen back in January, will then pare the list down to 100 ideas.

The fourth week of February, voting will take place to pare the list down even further, from 100 to 30 great ideas.

The selection committee will get down to a final three to five choices during the first half of March, and a celebration will be held the third week of March to announce the final ideas.

After that, community groups will step forward to take ownership of the final projects and move them forward.

Don't you want to be part of this? Of course you do. As the saying goes, "JUST DO IT!"
