Lions stomp Western Dubuque
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · January 25th, 2018

With games on back-to-back nights, the Linn-Mar basketball guys struggled on night one of action by suffering a 63-50 loss to Dubuque, Senior. However, the Lions salvaged a win the next night with a 74-44 drubbing of Western Dubuque in non-conference play to move to 7-5 overall on the season.

Senior jumped out to a 39-27 lead after one half of play and never looked back last Friday evening in Dubuque. The Lions struggled to get much going offensively, but resulted in no players finishing in double figures for scoring. Jacob Robertson and Trey Hutcheson each had nine points apiece while junior Cam Nelson came off the bench and scored eight points for Linn-Mar.

In the 30-point victory over the Bobcats, the Lions trailed by five after one quarter of play but picked up the pace for the rest of the contest. Hutcheson finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks leading Linn-Mar to the win. Senior Cole Martin came off the bench and shot 5-for-5 from the field, nailing a pair of three-pointers to finish with 12 points.

The Lions have a big week ahead with games scheduled against Cedar Falls, Prairie, and Waukee.
