Lion offense sputters in losses
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · February 1st, 2018

Getting hot and scoring the basketball hasn't been much of a problem for the Linn-Mar boys' basketball team traditionally. In their two losses last week, the Lions averaged just 47 points per game as they fell to both Cedar Falls and Waukee in Class 4A action. Linn-Mar did salvage a road win over metro rival Cedar Rapids Prairie by a final count of 63-59.

In the 63-45 loss to Cedar Falls, Trey Hutcheson led the charge with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists, while Jacob Robertson chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds of his own. No other Lion scored more than four points, however.

In the 53-49 setback against Waukee, Hutcheson finished with 16 points and seven rebounds while junior Greg Hall made a splash off the bench with 10 points and four steals, but it wasn't enough to push Linn-Mar to victory.

In Linn-Mar's lone win of the week, it again was Hutcheson who led the way with 21 points, six rebounds, and three dimes. Robertson joined him in double-digits with 14 points to help the Lions win their eighth game of the season, improving to 8-7 on the year.

Linn-Mar will hit the road this week for games against Waterloo East and Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
