Von Lehmden provides spark, Lions win
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · February 8th, 2018

Linn-Mar senior Sydney Von Lehmden has spent most of her career in a reserve role for the Lions' basketball program. Von Lehmden, who had just six points on the season before Friday night's game against rival Cedar Rapids Jefferson, got the start anyway for the Lions. The shortest player on the court arguably had the biggest impact for Linn-Mar on Friday evening, hitting the team's first shot of the game with a jumper off of a fast break pass from junior Macey Miller. The efforts of Von Lehmden got the squad fired up as the Lions went on to record their third win of the season by a 61-58 overtime final.

Senior Megan Murphy led the Lions in scoring and rebounds with 18 points and six boards in the winning effort. Miller had a solid outing with 14 points, six assists and four rebounds while Ally Johnson finished with nine points, three boards and a pair of assists. Both teams matched each other in the scoring department each quarter before Linn-Mar edged the J-Hawks in the extra stanza.

The victory is definitely the biggest bright spot for Linn-Mar this season, as their record now sits at 3-16 overall. They will look to capitalize on this big victory as they close out regular season play with a road tilt against Iowa City West and a home game against Cedar Rapids Xavier.
