Indians clinch WaMaC title

Class 4A's top-ranked team is still undefeated as the Marion girls' basketball team cruised to victories over Vinton-Shellsburg and South Tama on the road last week in WaMaC Conference play. The wins for the Indians were numbers 18 and 19 on the season, wrapping up the WaMaC crown in the process.

In the 78-21 win over Vinton-Shellsburg, Kayba Laube led the charge with 15 points, three assists and three steals, while Mia Laube and Chloe Rice each chipped in with 11 points. Rice led the team with five assists, while junior Maddie Knapp added four points and a team best five steals.

Five players finished with double figures in the scoring department, led by Mia Laube's 15 points in the 70-38 win over South Tama. Freshman Riley Wright came off the bench and scored 14 points while Kayba Laube Rice netted 12 points as well while Sophie Willette also came off the bench and finished with 11 points. Rice had a double-double with 11 points in addition to grabbing a team-best five rebounds and five steals in one of her most complete performances of her prep career.

The Indians are scheduled to wrap up regular season play this week with a road contest against West Delaware and a home bout with Clear Creek-Amana.bout with Clear Creek-Amana.
