Heritage Center hosts Women in Sports program

The Marion Heritage Center & Museum is pleased to host Ms. Cathryn Lucas who will present the program, "Women in Sports: 1870's-1900's" Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.. Ms. Lucas is a doctoral student in Health Studies/Sport Studies at the University of Iowa.

She teaches courses in Sport Studies and Health and Physical Activity Skills and has co-authored articles published in The Sport Psychologist and the Journal for the Study of Sports and Athletes in Education. Who were these Victorian sports stars? What was their motivation? What set them apart from other women at the time? What was the impact on Victorian culture and how did that ripple down to the present day?

Come learn and join in the discussion.

The museum will open at 1 p.m. and the program will be followed by a reception and refreshments.

The exhibition Marion's Good Roads: Bicycles, Motorcycles & Automobiles on the Transcontinental Routes 1878-1919 runs through April 29, 2018. Admission to the program and the exhibit is free, courtesy of a grant from the McIntyre Foundation of Cedar Rapids.
